THU 8/30

What’s the story?

There’s nothing random about embellishing the facts when dishing on your urban adventures. A good story is hard to resist, especially when it’s prose from pros. Hear works-in-progress from local fiction writers at the monthly series R.A.W. (Random Arrangement of Words). BYO prose (up to five typed, double-spaced pages) for the open mic afterward. Includes munchies and drinks. 7 p.m. Free. Kate the Great’s Book Emporium, 5550 N. Broadway. 773-561-1932.

Old MacDonald

“Eating local” does not mean hitting up your neighborhood fast food joint five times a week. Get the real deal at Adobo Grill’s “Farm Fresh” tequila dinner, featuring local farmer’s market ingredients, prepared by chef Freddy Sanchez, with Tequila Tezon pairings. Courses include heirloom tomato-and-cucumber soup with shrimp; squash-stuffed chicken breast with huitlacoche flan; and more. 7 p.m. $43. Reservations required. 1610 N. Wells St. 312-266-7999.

FRI 8/31

Take note

Before summer rides off into the sunset (without you), get out there and rock one last time. The final installment of Chicago Sport and Social Club’s Sunset Jams features tribute band Forever in Blue Jeans and Driven to Tears. Drink specials include $3 Coors Light and $4 select cocktails. 9 p.m. $10. Tickets: chicagosocial.com. Joe’s, 940 W. Weed St. 312-337-3486.

Washington St. 773-710-4143.

That’s classic

Cinderella had evil stepsisters and Prince Charming. You have a Dirt Devil and royal pains in the romance department. Join the club — “The Princess Club.” The newest Redmoon show from artistic director Jim Lasko takes a fresh look at classic fairy tales, including “Cinderella” and “Snow White.” The multimedia spectacle features an all-female ensemble of “princesses,” plus physical theater, special effects and a hip-hop fashion runway. 7:30 p.m. Through Oct. 7. $15-$30. Redmoon Central, 1463 W. Hubbard St. 312-850-8440.

Belabor the point

We get it: Labor Day means a vacation from work. But working out? That still works for us. Don’t miss a chance to sweat alfresco at Millennium Park Workouts, featuring instructors from Lakeshore Athletic Club leading sessions in yoga (8 a.m.) and Pilates (9 a.m.) on the park’s Great Lawn. At 10 a.m., things heat up with an aerobic dance session in hip-hop with Culture Shock Dance Troupe. All skill levels welcome. Free. Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park, 201 E. Randolph St. 312-742-1168.
