Rock Star Momma
The Hip Guide to Looking Gorgeous Through All Nine Months and Beyond
By Skye Hoppus (Attria, $17.95)
If you’re a mom-to-be who’s aching for some much-needed hipness during the 9 months of is-this-really-my-body pregnancy and beyond, this is for you. Rock-star cred? Hoppus’ husband is an alum of poppy punk-rock act blink-182 (currently in spinoff band, +44). Oh, and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin’s wife — actress Gwyneth Paltrow — wrote the foreword. Other celebs add their advice in this helpful guide to being the coolest-looking mom on the block.
1. Stylish postdelivery: Slip on “a black cotton sliplike nightie.” You’ll feel cute and comfy, and it’ll be great for breast-feeding.
2. Ease the transition. “Boot-cut pants are just oh so flattering, even when you’re in a postpartum rut.”
3. Squash those spider veins: Cover up with dark-colored tights, bronzers, self-tanners or, for the brave, fishnets.
4. Tame third-trimester static-electricity hair by drinking water, applying leave-in conditioner to your mane and adding vinegar to your cold-water rinse after washing.
5. Baby shower “do”: “Hot legs? A sassy mini is just calling your name … if you dare.”
