Getting offensive
Tim Tebow threw three touchdown passes, ran for two more scores and led defending national champion Florida to a 59-31 victory against Troy.
The Gators put together seven consecutive scoring drives and led 49-7 at halftime.
Tebow finished 18 of 25 passing for 236 yards. He also ran 17 times for 93 yards.
*In his second career start, Sam Bradford threw five touchdown passes, tying the Oklahoma record set by 2003 Heisman winner Jason White and 2000 Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel.
On the defense
Steve Spurrier did it to Georgia again. The ol’ ball coach guided South Carolina to a 16-12 upset of the 11th-ranked Bulldogs.
But without the high-scoring talent he used to beat Georgia 11 out of 12 years while at Florida, Spurrier relied on a stout defense to hold the Bulldogs without a touchdown for the first time since 2001.
“We won an ugly game,” Spurrier said.
The number
45. Georgia Tech scored its most points in a half since 1916, blowing out Samford 69-14.
The No. 21 Yellow Jackets led 45-0 at halftime, their most points in any half since a 222-0 win over Cumberland on Oct. 7, 1916.
Tech didn’t match that Cumberland standard of the most lopsided game in college football history, but it set a modern school record with nine rushing TDs.
