Flick it
We got a thrill when we spotted Hollywood royalty shooting on location in Chicago recently, but that can’t compare to the warm fuzzies we get from supporting local films. Catch a premiere screening of local production company Split Pillow’s new work, “The Disappearance of Daniel Dodger,” a conspiracy-thriller story about two identical twins who turn out to be, well, not so identical. Includes a wine and cheese reception (6 p.m.) and a question-and-answer session with the cast and crew after the screening. 7:30 p.m. $7.50. Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St. More info: splitpillow.com.
Croon for a cause
Some rely on breathing exercises; others prefer to prime their pipes with cocktails before a round of karaoke. Test your favorite method (cocktails, anyone?) at Tantalus Theatre Group’s karaoke night benefit bash. Cocktails from 8:30 to 11 p.m.; singing at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. $15. The Spot, 4437 N. Broadway. 773-728-8933.

See food
Always the first in line to try new things? Don’t miss the grand opening party at new Wicker Park sushi joint Blu Coral. The bash includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, drink specials and a sampling of maki rolls and appetizers. 6 p.m. No cover. RSVP required: blucoralchicago.com. 1265 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-252-2020.
Get a move on
Here in Chicago, we’ve got plenty of transportation drama, courtesy of the CTA. Pulitzer Prize-winner August Wilson portrays transportation tangles of a different sort in “Jitney.” The first drama in his 10-play cycle about African-American life in the 20th Century explores mounting tensions, sparked by the threat of closure from city officials, in a Pittsburgh taxi station. 8 p.m. Through Oct. 28. $15-$25. Pegasus Players, 1145 W. Wilson Ave. 773-878-9761.

Running for good
Do your athletic aspirations end at walking to the “L” stop? Don’t fret: You can still support the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. Lace up your shoes for the Second Annual Streak Chicago Pink. The benefit supports the Y-ME Illinois 2007 Pink Streak team, whose members will go the distance in October to raise money for Y-ME Illinois. Includes drinks, a pink chocolate fondue fountain, appetizers and silent auction. 7 p.m. $40-$50. Vines on Clark, 3554 N. Clark. St. 312-364-9071.
Totally ’80s
We’ve all had painful ’80s fashion flashbacks from time to time. Now it’s time to remember some of the decade’s better aspects with Hip-Hop Throwbacks. The event features DJ Spinderella (of Salt ‘N’ Pepa fame), performances by beat boxer GQ The Teacher, break-dancing groups and graffiti artists. 7 p.m. $3-$5. Conaway Multicultural Center, Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash Ave. 312-344-7101.
