Often pantless and always silly, Polymnia Nyx create a bit of a scene during live shows.

“It’s just all about having a good time,” guitarist Matt Kashuda says in explaining his band’s modus oprandi. “Forget your scene. What? Do you think you’re an emo kid, or a metal kid? We don’t care. Just have fun.”

Adds beat-stylist Teddy Schrishuhn, “Just come out here and dance with us.”

Longtime friends but newly solidified as a musical group, Kashuda, Schrishuhn and bassist Kevin Richter recently took second at the Three-Rivers Festival Battle of the Bands in Channahon. They’ve been putting on wild shows for capacity crowds in the Illinois State University area since.

They say they’re excited to share the goofiness with bigger crowds at bigger venues, including in Chicago, over the coming months.

The guys love to have a good time, but in the writing and recording process, they find joviality can be serious business. Employing a Fun Machine and Mr. Microphone, they seek a level of sound sophistication that moves the listener “not so much in an emotional way as a physical way” as they cultivate a blend of synth lines, programmed beats and raw bass, guitar and drums.

They’ve yet to use the Mr. Mic during their live shows, but they’re hell-bent on doing it. Anything else lying around is an open target for producing sound as well, so keep an eye on all your affects around Polymnia Nyx.

“We are idiots on stage,” Kashuda says.
