Emile Hirsch says a lot of people can relate to his “Into the Wild” character’s sense of wanderlust.
He and director Sean Penn attended a Rome Film Festival screening Wednesday of “Wild,” about Christopher McCandless — whose restless wanderings left him starved to death in Alaska at 24.
“Everybody wants to go on the adventure of a lifetime,” Hirsch said.
Penn agreed — but “not to the point of recommending some kind of reckless self-endangerment.” Penn, meanwhile, kept his sunglasses on throughout the questions.
“You have to forgive me, I drank too much of Rome’s red wine last night,” he said.
