A northwest suburban high school district plans to spend $27,000 to study replacing natural grass with artificial turf at the district’s stadiums.
Officials at Township High School District 211, based in Palatine, have been considering the move since 2002.
The school board, which approved the study Thursday, will seek feedback from residents.
“This action didn’t give us the authority to move forward, but it did fund the research needed to make an informed decision,” said Dave Torres, assistant superintendent of finance.
The recommendation of a stadium-resurface committee would be based on usage, cost and safety, said Torres, the committee’s chairman.
