SOMALIAN CRACKDOWN: Government troops raided three radio stations in Mogadishu on Sunday, seizing equipment, forcing the stations off the air and arresting one journalist. The raids came a day after at least 14 people died and 30 were wounded in fighting between Ethiopian-backed soldiers and suspected insurgents.

THAI ELECTION: Thais went to the polls Sunday to vote in the country’s first elections for the upper house of Parliament since a 2006 military coup ousted elected Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The 76 members of the Senate to be elected will join 74 appointed senators.

KOREAN TENSIONS: North Korea lashed out Monday at continuing U.S.-South Korean war games, saying the communist nation would consider bolstering its defenses in response. “We will explore necessary countermeasures, including further strengthening all deterrents,” the North’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
