MODEL MYSTERY 2: The family of former model Katoucha Niane asked French judges to investigate their suspicions she was murdered, judicial officials said. The body of the Guinean-born former model for Yves Saint Laurent was found in the Seine River last week. She had been a vocal opponent of female genital mutilation.
AFGHAN ENVOY: Norwegian diplomat Kai Eide has been appointed the latest UN “super envoy” to coordinate military and civilian efforts in Afghanistan, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s office said. Ban wrote the Security Council that the appointment would take “immediate effect,” unless the council, whose approval is required, had any objections.
