Boston bans trans fats
Boston on Thursday joined other cities in banning artery-clogging trans fats from food served in restaurants and grocery stores. Businesses, schools and hospitals will have to stop using oils and spreads that contain trans fats. Prepackaged foods won’t be included.
Girl falls into bear exhibit
A girl fell into a bear exhibit at the St. Louis Zoo and received a minor head injury. The girl climbed on a rail and fell into the exhibit Wednesday, a zoo spokesman said.
Mother pleads not guilty
A woman suspected of drowning her three children in a bathtub pleaded not guilty to murder charges Thursday. Leatrice Brewer, 27, was arrested Feb. 24 after telling police she had drowned the children in their Long Island apartment.
Executive commits suicide
An executive questioned in a couple’s disappearance committed suicide by slashing his inner thigh, authorities said Thursday. Dennis Ray Gerwing’s lawyer found his body in a Hilton Head, S.C., condo 90 minutes after the sheriff’s office made his name public.
Lutheran group defines marriage
A task force drafting a statement on sexuality for the nation’s largest Lutheran group said Thursday the church should continue defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The panel did not condemn same-gender relationships.
‘Obama in 30 seconds’
The liberal group moveon.org has enlisted Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, among other celebs, to help select a TV ad supporting Obama’s campaign. Participants in the “Obama in 30 Seconds” contest will have until April 1 to submit entries.
