Scarlett Johansson (left) has shown the world she can act; now she is taking a shot at singing. The 22-year-old actress’ debut album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” is set to drop May 19. ScarJo is just one in a long line of Tinseltown stars who are attempting or have attempted to launch a music career. Consider the following.
TERRENCE HOWARD
Acting cred: Showed his gangster rap skills with his Oscar-nominated role in “Hustle & Flow,” in which he played a pimp-turned-rapper trying to score a record deal.
Music: He is testing his vocal skills while starring in the revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” He also is working on an album set for a fall release, according to Entertainment Weekly.
LINDSAY LOHAN
Acting cred: Starred in tween box-office hits “Freaky Friday,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” and “Mean Girls” before her personal drama overtook her career.
Music: Her debut album, “Speak,” dropped in 2004 to little fanfare. Her sophomore album, “A Little More Personal (Raw),” dropped in 2006. We were surprised about the second album too.
JENNIFER LOPEZ
Acting cred: Became the first Latina actress to get paid $1 million or more for a film role. Has starred in some movies, including “Out of Sight,” “Selena” and “Shall We Dance,” as well as some flops, most notably, “Gigli.”
Music: She released seven albums since her debut, “On the 6,” in 1999. She has sold more than 48 million albums worldwide.
HILARY DUFF
Acting cred: Credits include “Lizzie McGuire” and “Cheaper By The Dozen.”
Music: She has three albums under her belt, all of which did fairly well in sales.
JAMIE FOXX
Acting cred: Won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the movie “Ray” and has starred in other blockbusters, including “Collateral” and “Miami Vice.”
Music: His sophomore album, “Unpredictable,” released in 2006, topped U.S. music charts in its second week and went on to claim platinum status.
