A 28-year-old man was killed and his father wounded when someone shot into their West Pullman home on the city’s Far South Side on Friday afternoon, police said.

The two men were shot about 2:15 p.m. inside their home in the 11900 block of South Eggleston Avenue, Calumet District Capt. Ruth Wedster said.

The son, Derrick Franklin, was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His 47-year-old father was taken to the same hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

The father’s girlfriend, who was also in the home, woke up to the gunfire and called 911.
