An individual’s passport file usually contains at minimum a passport application, or previous applications. The applications include such biographical information as the applicant’s name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, Social Security number, marital status, contact phone number, mailing address and e-mail.

An application also includes the individual’s physical description — height, hair color and eye color — and the names and place of birth of the applicant’s parents. It also asks for such optional information as the applicant’s employer and emergency contact.

The State Department says passport files do not contain travel information, such as visa and entry stamps, from previous passports. Almost all passport files contain only a passport application form as submitted by the applicant.
