Another horror movie, another No. 1 at the box office.
Slasher flick “Prom Night” scared up $22.7 million over the weekend, making it the top movie in theaters, according to studio estimates. It took a critical beating, but audiences came out in droves — just as they do for most horror movies. Besides, who doesn’t love a good prom-gone-wrong?
The movie is a PG-13 remake of the 1980 original.
“Street Kings,” co-starring Chicago’s Common, opened in second place with $12 million in a down weekend for movies.
