A former Iraqi electricity minister who escaped from a Baghdad jail in 2006 was among the owners who put up 19 properties last week to secure the release of political fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, records showed Friday.

Aiham Alsammarae posted three properties with a combined equity of nearly $2.8 million. Alsammarae, whose Oak Brook home was among the properties, previously told the Tribune he and Rezko have been “good friends” since both attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in the 1970s.

Rezko, whose fraud trial is ongoing, was released to home confinement on more than $8.5 million bail.
