THREE UP
Hunter Pence wasn’t going to go 0-for-6. Hitless with three K’s, he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 12th in Houston’s 8-6 win over the Brewers. Manager Cecil Cooper: “It was beautiful.”
For the third straight start, Aaron Cook ended a four-game Colorado skid, beating the Dodgers 7-2. The Rockies are 6-1 when Cook starts, 6-18 otherwise. He has no walks in his last two starts.
Gil Meche beat the Indians after allowing eight runs in 31/3 innings of a 15-1 loss to Cleveland on April 22. He gave up four hits in 7 innings of a 2-0 win Sunday. Meche: “This is what I’ve been waiting for.”
THREE DOWN
The Indians have been waiting for some offense. They didn’t move a runner to third base and got only one runner to second. Manager Eric Wedge hinted some roster changes might be ahead.
Bronson Arroyo lasted only 11/3 innings in Atlanta, the shortest of his 166 career starts. The right-hander fell to 1-4 and his ERA climbed to 8.63 as he gave up seven runs on seven hits with a walk.
The Tigers were cruising along with a 6-3 lead, but third baseman Carlos Guillen let a routine two-out ground ball roll through his legs in the seventh. Four runs then scored in a loss to the Twins.
