Bank holdup suspect caught
A South Side man is in custody after being charged in last month’s robbery of a Charter One Bank branch in the Loop, authorities said Monday. The suspect, Darryl Rogers, 43, of the 2000 block of South Michigan Avenue, is a suspect in two other robberies, but hasn’t been charged in those. Rogers was arrested April 30 after he was seen peering into a bank window on Wacker Drive.
Patching to start on Lake Shore Drive
Pavement patching is scheduled to begin Tuesday on some of the worst sections of North Lake Shore Drive as a stopgap until a summer resurfacing project starts, city officials said Monday. The patching is planned from Belmont Avenue to Hollywood Avenue. Repairs will begin on northbound lanes at Belmont, then southbound. Work will occur over the next two weeks, weather permitting.
Newborn dropped off at firehouse
A young mother dropped off her newborn baby boy at a South Side fire station early Monday, police said. The girl, 16, arrived at the firehouse, 13359 S. Burley Ave., with an infant wrapped in a blanket and left after she turned the child over, said Police Officer Laura Kubiak. Authorities said the infant was in good condition at an area hospital, and that officials will try to place the child with adoptive parents.
