SOMALIA PROTESTS: Hundreds of youths in Mogadishu hurled stones and blocked roads Tuesday in a second day of protests over soaring food prices. Meanwhile, an international rights group accused Ethiopian troops of torturing and killing civilians in the Somali capital. And Islamist fighters said a U.S. airstrike overnight blasted a remote area of central Somalia hours after armed civilians met there. The U.S. military denied the claim.
PRICELESS FIND: Spanish police say they have recovered more than 700 pieces of pre-Columbian art of “incalculable value” — necklaces, earrings, masks, statues and ceramics — allegedly plundered and taken from South American countries to be sold in Europe. Police say the artifacts came from archeological sites in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. A Spaniard and his Colombian wife have been arrested.
