THREE UP

Tim Wakefield’s knuckler baffled the Tigers for eight innings in a 5-0 Red Sox win, striking out six and giving up just two hits, Carlos Guillen’s single in the first and Ivan Rodriguez’s double in the eighth.

The Pirates’ Nate McLouth continued his hot start, ripping two more homers in a 12-6 victory over the Giants. McLouth now has nine home runs, just four shy of his career-high 13 set last year.

Carlos Lee raked the go-ahead two-run double past a diving Austin Kearns in the eighth inning as the Astros rallied for a 6-5 win over the Nationals. Lee also had an RBI double in the second.

THREE DOWN

Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain met his match. David Dellucci hit a three-run homer in the eighth as the Yankees lost to the Indians 5-3. Chamberlain had allowed just eight hits and two runs in 111/3 innings.

Felipe Lopez, who had a six-RBI game 13 days ago, endured his worst game of the year as he went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in the Nationals’ 6-5 loss to the Astros. He grounded out in the ninth.

The Blue Jays lost two shortstops in a 5-4 loss to the Rays. David Eckstein left in the fifth inning with a sore right groin and John McDonald, his replacement, left after injuring his right ankle in the sixth.
