*Zach Sills, Jared Goltz, Sam Bersh, Ethan Barhydt, Michelle Garramone, Sam Marcus, Jason Schaider, Alex Ruby, and Amanda Bery, media production/WDHS-TV students at Deerfield High School, were recently named winners in the 2008 National Student Television Awards of Excellence competition by the National Television Academy.

*District 67 and District 115 are partnering to form a Mandarin Chinese Committee. The committee will brainstorm ideas to help make new teachers from China feel welcome and to assist with their transition to living in Lake Forest. The committee will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. May 22 in District 67 Administration Center, 67 W. Deerpath Rd. Call Colleen Brueggeman at 847- 615-4474.

*Sarah Wright will receive the district’s 2008 Citizen Recognition Award at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the boardroom at the Administrative Complex, 131 McKinley Ave.

LIBERTYVILLE AND VERNON HILLS, DISTRICT 128

*Zach Nakashian, Diana Chen, Lauren Clatch, Ethan Lindauer and Alex Padovano, students at Vernon Hills High School, recently earned recognition in the statewide Best Student Prose and Poetry writing competition sponsored by the Illinois Association of Teachers of English. First place went to Zach Nakashian for his narrative, “To Forget,” to be published in the fall in the volume, “Illinois Best Student Prose and Poetry.” Runners-up were Diana Chen for “The Yellow Rose of I-H Ville,” and Lauren Clatch for “How All Things Work.” Honorable Mention recognition went to Ethan Lindauer for “Strong Feelings on Steroids” and Alex Padovano for “Bella Figura.” Call 847-247-4513.
