ELK GROVE VILLAGE
Board allows 2 firms to buy, fix buildings
Elk Grove Village officials have given the green light to two companies that plan to renovate vacant business park property.
Centerpoint Properties LLC is buying a 52,000-square-foot building at 1201 Estes Ave. Any new manufacturing tenant is expected to create 35 to 55 permanent jobs, officials said. Basic Enterprises Inc., a warehousing company, will buy a 6,000-square-foot building at 1221 Jarvis Ave.
The Village Board recommended Tuesday that both projects be allowed to participate in a Cook County economic development program that reduces property tax assessments.

CARPENTERSVILLE
District may pursue phone-alert system
Officials for Carpentersville-based Community Unit District 300 want to solicit bids for an automatic telephone notification system that would alert families to school closings, lockdowns and other safety issues.
The systems have become increasingly common among area districts, school officials said during a Tuesday night board meeting. The district expects to pay about $50,000 for its proposed alert system, which also might use e-mail.
The work could be completed by the start of the next school year.
District 300 spokeswoman Allison Smith said the system would be used only for urgent messages and could use Spanish and English simultaneously.
