A bicyclist struck by a car Sunday in Naperville remained in critical condition Monday, and bail was set at $400,000 for the teen driver charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Brian Melbye, 18, had taken the prescription pain medication Vicodin and admitted smoking marijuana before he ran down a woman who was riding in front of his car, DuPage County authorities said. The woman, 54, suffered a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage and spinal injuries that were being treated at Edward Hospital, Assistant State’s Atty. James Scalatine said.

Melbye failed field-sobriety tests and was unable to stand on his own, Naperville police said. Results of blood and urine tests have not been completed.
