An Aurora man serving life for a double murder was indicted Tuesday in the 1990 slaying of his wife, whose body is still missing, Kane County officials said.

Aurelio Montano, 52, is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the disappearance of Maria Guadalupe Montano, 35. Aurora police said she was killed during a domestic violence incident in July 1990.

Weeks later, her family reported her missing. Her body has yet to be recovered, said Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

Police reopened the death investigation last year, interviewing witnesses locally and in Mexico, authorities said.

“We did hit a lot of brick walls,” Ferrelli said.

However, police eventually persuaded people who knew what allegedly occurred to come forward, he said.

No court date has been announced for Montano. He is serving his sentence at Stateville prison for the June 1996 strangulations of Juan Medina and Claudia Ramos in Aurora.
