Frozen treats get hip

In “Pops! Icy Treats for Everyone” (Quirk, $15.95), Krystina Castella brings dozens of colorful, creative ideas to the freezer. Bing cherry-vanilla pops with yogurt, root beer float pops (made with soda, ice cream and maraschino cherries) and mai tai pops (definitely for grown-ups) are just three of the clever ways Castella updates the classic summertime treat. The book is at Barbara’s Bookstore and some Barnes & Noble stores.

Mascarpone to crave

Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese, from a dairy farm in Waterloo, Wis., produces a handcrafted mascarpone that’s rich, creamy and addictive. It’s perfect for serving with summer berries or making a to-die-for tiramisu. An 8-ounce package is $5.50 at Whole Foods Market.

Bloomin’ treats

These cookie flower “lollipops” are pretty to look at and satisfying to eat–the sugar cookie buried under all that yummy frosting is tender and buttery. Cookies are $3.50 and $6 each at Solomon’s Kitchen & Gifts, 2222 N. Elston Ave., 888-384-8575. Cookies also can be ordered (minus the sticks) at solomonscookies.com.
