Ozzie Guillen has a number of options at his disposal to work Ken Griffey Jr. into the lineup, but here’s just a pair of examples how the way Sox batting order could change:

SS

Orlando Cabrera

C

A.J. Pierzynski

LF

Carlos Quentin

RF

Jermaine Dye

1B

Paul Konerko

CF

Nick Swisher

3B

Josh Fields

2B

Alexei Ramirez

One example: Griffey could play centerfield and perhaps play in the 7th spot. Nick Swisher and Paul Konerko could share first-base duties and bat 6th.

In another scenario, Griffey could share DH duties with Jim Thome and bat 6th. Konerko could stay at first and Swisher could give Jermaine Dye a rest in right.

MORE REACTIONS …

“The White Sox didn’t call me until Wednesday afternoon and there had been no contact before then. Surprised? Yes, I was.”

WALT JOCKETTY

[ Reds general manager said both he and Griffey were caught off-guard when the White Sox approached him on Wednesday ]

“People have no idea what he went through in his career. The first time he broke his hand in Seattle, it was bad, man. I thought he might miss two years. They put a plate in his hand and he was back in six weeks.”

KEN GRIFFEY SR.

[ who advised his son to approve the trade because “the White Sox have a chance to get him that ring.” ]

DOT COMMENTS

Here’s how some fans on chicagosports.com reacted to news of Ken Griffey Jr.’s trade to the White Sox:

“Oh, great. Another slow, low average player who is prone to injury. Did we give up whatever talent we have left for him?” — Bill

“Who’s next, Frank?” — BK

“Hey, 1995 called, they said ‘Great trade!’ ” — Todd

“Nice move. He’s hitting .324 in his last 10 games with 3 home runs, hits 50 points better against right-handers, and is routinely booed at home so a change of scenery may help him. If all else fails, a platoon or left-handed bat for PH is a great asset.” — Pete
