Berlioz’s dramatic legend “The Damnation of Faust” receives its first subscription series performance in 19 years under conductor Charles Dutoit. Lyric Opera of Chicago — Massenet’s ‘Manon’:

As close to perfection as opera gets. French soprano Natalie Dessay returns to the Lyric as the heroine of Massenet’s most popular opera. Michigan Opera Theater:

Grand opera returns to the Auditorium Theatre with the Chicago premiere of “Margaret Garner,” by composer Richard Danielpour and librettist Toni Morrison, based on the true story of a fugitive slave in the pre-Civil War era that chose death for her children rather than surrendering to further servitude.
