Micah Materre will substitute for Payne alongside co-anchor Mark Suppelsa on the station’s 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the interim.
“We look forward to Allison’s speedy return,” Marty Wilke, WGN’s vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “Viewers who would like to send Allison a get well wish can do so at wgntv.com on our ‘get well’ message board.”
WGN, like the Chicago Tribune, is owned by Tribune Co.
