So, all hands on deck. Lovie Smith is back in charge. In charge of his own defense, calling plays for the Bears.
I guess this means Bob Babich has been demoted. I guess the conversation went like this: “Bob, look, our defense is total crap; you’re my friend, I can’t really can you. I’m bringing in my other good friend, Rod Marinelli, to coach the defensive line, so what I’m really hoping to create here is a situation where we have three close friends, me calling the defensive plays, Rod coaching the line and you not really doing anything because you’re so bad at being a coordinator. But the important thing is, you know, we’re all friends.”
One word for you: awkward.
I still say Babich should be gone. And once this experiment fails, this time next year, Lovie could be gone. By the way, why couldn’t we go shopping for a head coach this year? My goodness, the goodies. Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher, all of those Belichick guys, Eric Mangini, somebody special.
No, we’ll end up with someone average again, boy I can’t wait. By the way, taking a look at who’s playing for the NFC title game makes me slightly ill. Eagles at Cardinals.
Folks, if the Bears beat the Texans, the Eagles aren’t even in. Oh, and we beat the Eagles, and the Cardinals, well, you know.
Off-season needs? Not so sure it’s quarterback anymore. Heck, Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger are your QBs in one game. That’s what a great defense does for you. I say get Kurt Warner, draft a stud on defense, either a lineman or a safety. Get a few more offensive linemen, and, for gosh sakes, get me a few hundred of the top receivers out there.
Also, I’m thinking Bartolo Colon can play football for the Bears as well. The Sox signed the “250-plus” pound pitcher with back problems. Well, here’s a hint about the back problems: It’s weight-related. Take 50 off and the problems disappear.
Secondly — or nextly, I guess we’re that desperate to find a pitcher on the South Side.
Talk about low expectations — the guy pitched 39 innings last year. I think I pitched more than that.
All I know is that if this is our fifth starter, we may have a problem.
