Not that anyone is counting, but it has been 185 days since the White Sox made the final out of their 2008 season. I guess you can say that White Sox Nation has accomplished a lot since then:

– Elect one of our own as president. Check.

– Get younger and more athletic. Yes, Bartolo Colon is considered athletic by some. Check.

– Change the name of the White House to the White Sox House. We’re still working on that one, right, Barack?

Mother Nature took the phrase “Opening Day is Soxman’s Christmas” a little too seriously, throwing snowballs instead of fastballs, and delaying the greatest day of the year by 24 hours.

Patience is a virtue; good things come to those who wait, etc. Pick your cliche. We won on Opening Day. What more could a superfan say? Instead of a blackout, we got a whiteout, still had a sellout, and saw Jim Thome knock one out.

For Mr. Incredible it was plain to see, that he only needed a repeat of game 163.

Mark Buehrle’s fastball cut harder than the winds, and despite a bases-loaded blunder, we had just the right amount of thunder. When the dark icy shadows began to descend upon the Cell, No. 45 brought his fastball, making it hotter than … more cow bell?

So for just one day we have perfection in the AL Central race. Rejoice, Sox fans. We are in first.

Sure it’s only one game — one win in a 162-game season. But the Sox offered us an exciting preview of what’s to come. No win will come easy. Speed may be a generous word to describe the middle of our lineup, and “execution” should not be used to describe or carry out on our leadoff hitter.

This team will fight and make our hearts stop at times doing it. Sox fans wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sharing Opening Day with the greatest sports fans in the world isn’t Christmas, it’s heaven on earth.

Convince God to be a Sox fan? Check.
