3 shot, injured in Chinatown

Three people were shot and seriously injured early Tuesday in Chinatown, police said. About 1:35 a.m., police responded to shots fired in the 2200 block of South Archer Avenue, said Chicago News Affairs Officer David Banks. A 43-year-old woman was found shot in her lower right leg; a 31-year-old man was shot in his left hip and buttocks; and a 21-year-old man was struck in the shoulder, he said.

Autopsy: Woman was strangled

An unidentified woman found dead in a Southeast Side alley Monday morning was strangled, according to an autopsy performed Tuesday. Her death was ruled a homicide. The woman, thought to be in her early-to-mid 20s, was found unresponsive in the alley near East 97th Street and South Avenue J in the East Side neighborhood, said Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

Dog killed in Lakeview burglary

A small dog was stabbed and killed during a burglary in a Lakeview apartment last week, Chicago police said Tuesday. The burglary happened Thursday night at the apartment in the 600 block of West Barry Avenue. A woman and her boyfriend, who live there together, were outside when they noticed someone had broken into the back door, police said.

Awww! Congrats, you whales

Puiji and Naya are expecting. The twenty-something beluga whales at Shedd Aquarium are pregnant, a facility official said, with calves expected to be born this fall. This marks the third pregnancy for Puiji, 23, and the second for Naya, 20. They are two of the aquarium’s seven beluga whales.
