DRIVES

*Non-perishable food, personal hygiene and household items for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills food pantry may be dropped off during August at both branches of the Alqonguin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Drive and 115 Eastgate Drive. For a shopping list, visit alith-foodpantry.org.

FUNDRAISERS

*The Prospect Marching Knights will hold their annual car washes 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at eight sites: Congregational United Church of Christ, 1001 W. Kirchoff Rd., Arlington Heights; and American Charter Bank, 111 E. Rand Rd.; Brunswick Zone, 824 E. Rand Rd.; Community Presbyterian Church, 407 N. Main St.; Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd.; Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Rd.; St. Emily’s Church, 1400 E. Central Rd.; and Trinity Methodist Church, 605 W. Golf Rd., all in Mt. Prospect. The car washes are free, but students will seek sponsors and accept donations for the band’s coming season.

*The Lance Meyer Memorial Golf Tournament will begin with golf at 11:30 a.m., followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Mt. Prospect Golf Course, 600 S. See Gwun Ave., Mt. Prospect. The tournament was formed to help Jimmy Meyer, who first lost his mother, Melissa, and then his Uncle Lance and is being raised by his uncle’s fiance. This year proceeds will also benefit the Finnerty children, who survived a fire at their home in June that claimed the lives of their parents and brother and who are now being raised by an aunt. The cost is $125 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart and dinner. There will also be raffles and an auction. Call Colleen Donoho at 847-346-9094.

*The 25th Annual American Craft Exposition will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 28, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 29 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, Northwestern University, 2311 Campus Drive, Evanston. The cost is $12 for adults, three-day entry in advance and online before Aug. 19; $15 for adults, three-day entry after Aug. 19; and $5 for ages 10 and younger. *Dogs from the Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus will be available for adoption from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at K-9 PlayTime Inc., 403 Washington Blvd., Unit 1, Mundelein. To view dogs and learn about the adoption process, visit ildoberescue.com.
