I’d like to sincerely thank the Cubs, and the White Sox.
Congratulations to both on a job well done. Mission accomplished.
They’ve both managed to pique my interest, keep me engaged, occupy my summer.
In other words, they’ve gotten me all the way through training camp.
While the Cubs have been sunk for some time, the recent White Sox trip to Boston revealed it all to me.
The White Sox are a .500 team, nothing more, maybe something less. And I’ve never seen more talent wasted in a season. I’m tempted to blame the general manager. Sure, he’s been aggressive, but he has a math problem. After all these trades, he’s still two starters short.
Welcome to the club, Jake Peavy, we hope you pull something together real quick. But you may not be able to make up for some glaring shortages.
Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko and Jim Thome are not what they once were. And neither is Carlos Quentin. I’m also not sure how Alex Rios really helps at this point.
Here’s the thing. If the Sox weren’t in the worst division I’ve ever seen, they would be so far off the map you would need Google Earth to find them.
Ozzie Guillen isn’t innocent either. As for his starters, he should have gone with the kids by now — and I know he’s got some good ones in Charlotte. Instead, Jose Contreras, Freddy Garcia and of course the round mound of no rebound, Bartolo Colon.
Sorry, but we can’t turn the clock back. The best we can do is move it forward.
The Cubs are moving forward with new owners — finally. I don’t know who’s staying or going, but anything to get Milton Bradley out of town ASAP would be appreciated. He can’t hack it under the big lights, but he’s paid like he can. Just like the rest of them.
As for the Bears, big trip to Denver. We’ll see how Jay Cutler does, but I know this — he’ll be better than Kyle Orton.
Bears. It’s all that matters.
