The 2010 Michelin Challenge Design competition, an annual contest sponsored by the tire-maker, is focusing on electric vehicles.
Michelin is “challenging the design world to create the next generation of electric-powered passenger vehicles that incorporate emerging technologies and use materials, size and shapes in ways that are both visually attractive and unprecedented,” said Vic Koelsch, Michelin’s worldwide president for original equipment passenger car and light truck tires.
Close to 300 renderings from designers around the world have been submitted for judging by a panel from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.
Entries are judged on their ability to dramatically improve energy efficiency, minimize environmental impact and offer strong emotional appeal. Winners will be announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
