Red-light camera late fees reduced

Late fees for drivers ticketed for red-light camera violations in Naperville are being reduced from $100 to $50, effective this month.

Motorists are fined $100 for violating red lights at the city’s three red-light camera intersections. The city had been charging an extra $100 for violators who did not contest the fine or pay within 30 days of the violation.

City staff proposed the reduction, noting that drivers often complain about the punitive feel of the fines.

DeVry’s HQ moves into village

Higher education company DeVry Inc. has settled into its new corporate headquarters in Downers Grove after several years in Oakbrook Terrace.

The company moved 830 employees from the Oakbrook Terrace Tower Building to the Highland Landmark V building at 31st Street and Highland Avenue in Downers Grove. DeVry will occupy around 142,000 square feet inside the 235,000-square-foot complex.

“It’s very state-of-the-art and gives us a lot of room to grow,” said Joan Bates, spokeswoman for DeVry Inc.

The new complex will house the Keller Graduate School of Management.

The building opened in 2007. Downers Grove Economic Development Chairman Greg Bedalov feared the economic collapse of 2008 would leave a substantial portion of the building vacant for a long time.

“This building was opened right as the economy started to take a downward spiral,” Bedalov said. “Filling this space is going to generate a lot of revenue for our village in terms of sales and property tax.”

DeVry Inc. has a 15-year lease for space in the building. DeVry Inc. will retain a smaller office in Oak Brook.
