Swallowed pride
Florellen Rickard of New Orleans accidentally swallowed a Saints earring last week while taking her vitamins. Her husband, Daniel, said the fleur-de-lis lodged in her throat before doctors were eventually able to remove it. But her spirits were buoyed as her favorite team went on to win the Super Bowl Sunday, when it was the Indianapolis Colts who choked.
Free food
In the category of slightly more digestible, Denny’s is again offering a free Grand Slam breakfast to anyone who wants one Tuesday, as it did after last year’s Super Bowl. Just show up at a Denny’s between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. for your favorite combo, such as two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage links and two strips of bacon — all free. But don’t worry, you’ll pay for it later.

Who will have a candidate first — the Republicans for governor, or the Democrats for lieutenant? Already a full week removed from the primary, Illinois’ political reputation may get even worse. Imagine — this could take longer than a Bears coaching search.
