When current generations have not done their homework, it shows in the subpar quality of their work. Luckily, these music industry artists are up on one of the greatest musicians ever, and they are giving Jimi Hendrix’s works an annual homage in the Experience Hendrix concert tour. You can’t find many who will argue that Hendrix is not at the top of the list of best guitarists who have ever played, with influences that reach all genres. The lineup for this tour is proof of his reach: old-school bluesman Hubert Sumlin; from Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies, Billy Cox; adding some soul, Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers; representing the youngsters is Kenny Wayne Shepherd; and rocking it out are Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford, Living Colour, Joe Satriani and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas (go to experiencehendrixtour.com for a full lineup). The collective will present Hendrix’s music to fans that are still reverberating from having seen Hendrix live in the ’60s (Hendrix died in 1970), and the masses that shop talk about slingers, saturate their ear lobes with recordings of good musicianship and feign a tribute to Hendrix’s skills. 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St. $38-$92.50; 800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com
