Gerald Skoning (Commentary, May 14) made a pertinent observation that we Americans could learn much from the one-month campaign period that the British use instead of the drawn-out, expensive U.S. election process. He also mentioned that political ads are banned on TV!
The most important difference that we could learn from, however, is the presence of three parties from which the electorate made their choices. The negotiations that resulted from no one party achieving a majority vote led to a coalition of liberals and conservatives who actually agreed, in writing, to a blueprint which would govern their actions for the next five years. It appears they might even get something done!
