An animal rescue group is looking for a new home for an alligator that was snared outside a home in Buffalo Grove.
After collaring the 3-foot-long alligator with a neighbor’s garbage can, police turned the animal over to the A-B-C Humane Wildlife Rescue and Relocation in Arlington Heights. The group said it has contacted a few nature centers and wildlife placement centers.
Police got a call at about about 8:30 p.m. from someone in the 600 block of Pinehurst Lane who looked on his lawn and said he
.
Police said they couldn’t find it, initially, and called more manpower to the scene. After cornering the reptile, police said they had a hard time using a net because of the alligator’s strength.
Instead, police said they “collared” the alligator with a garbage can, sliding the animal inside and bringing it into a truck.
“The best part is that we didn’t have to hurt it,” said Buffalo Grove Police Sgt. Mike Millett. “You get so many calls and you say, ‘There’s not a chance there’s a 3-foot alligator on some suburban front lawn.’ But, by golly, there was.”
