An Aurora man was sentenced to three years of sex offender probation Thursday for exposing himself to a child.

Bruce Hoffmann, 44, was found guilty in April of two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, a Class 4 felony.

Authorities say the episode, which involved a 9-year-old girl, took place in January 2008. Hoffmann’s wife was baby-sitting the child, according to court records.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt asked Judge Timothy Sheldon to impose a three-year prison sentence. A post-conviction psychological evaluation indicated Hoffmann has an anti-social personality disorder, she said.

“He’s a psychopath,” Schmidt said.

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, a man testified that Hoffmann had sexually abused him at age 9. But the man, now 23, acknowledged that the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigated the allegation but declared it unfounded. Hoffmann was not charged.

Hoffmann briefly addressed Sheldon before sentencing, saying only that he would comply with any orders made by the court.

In passing sentence, Sheldon noted that Hoffmann had a full-time job and was an Army veteran.

Hoffmann will have to undergo counseling as part of his probation. Sheldon said Hoffmann would have to submit to random polygraph testing regarding his activities and that authorities would have the right to randomly search his computer.
