No matter how many standup gigs, TV shows, movies and cartoon voiceovers Tommy Davidson adds to his resume, it’s hard not to remember him as the dude who does the Sammy Davis Jr. impersonation — better than anyone we’ve seen. But, of course, his talent spans more than that. Davidson’s star has shone since he first stepped on the standup stage in Washington, D.C., in the ’80s, with his brand of comedy that runs from impersonations to simple human observations. Davidson hasn’t had the blockbuster success of some of his colleagues (Davidson was a cast member of the ’90s variety show “In Living Color,” which included Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans and Fly Girl dancer J-Lo). But that hasn’t stopped him from working his tail off, for audiences in small clubs and major arenas — wherever the audience beckons. 8 and 10:15 p.m. Friday, 7 and 9:15 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday at Improv, Woodfield Mall, 5 Woodfield Road, Schaumburg; $22; 847-240-2001, improv.com
