Storyline:
The Fire help open a new Major League Soccer stadium for the second straight year when they visit the expansion Portland Timbers (0-2-1, 1 point) at renovated Jeld-Wen Field, a onetime minor league baseball park. It has been reconfigured for soccer, and a capacity crowd of 22,000 is expected. In 2010, the Fire played in the first MLS game at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The Fire (1-1-1, 4 points) produced a solid effort with a disappointing result Saturday in a 2-1 loss at Seattle. They return home Friday to prepare for Sunday’s clash against David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy.
