Paul,
The White Sox are “All In” with that Bacardi at the Park restaurant across the street from the Cell. The neighborhood and fans needed an establishment to stimulate the area.
You and your fellow writers will like it. Just stay away from the statue in front of the Cell. We’ve had enough trouble already.
But I’m not sure I buy this “All In” slogan as it relates to the current state of the Sox. There are 89 games left, but I remember Dick Pole, your former pitching coach and bench coach, once telling me “that being young thing gets old after a while.”
In the case of the Sox, I’m not waiting for that 26-5 surge that vaulted them from 91/2 games out to first place by the All-Star break in 2010. There just seems to be too many stagnant parts to this lineup. This reminds me of the only truck I owned more than 20 years ago.
The fans are begging for Dayan Viciedo to be promoted from Triple-A Charlotte. Ozzie calls him the “Tank” because of his size, but I prefer to call him the “Cuban Crusher” because he has done a great job of keeping weight off that has enabled him to play right field well, and he can smack the ball as hard as anyone on the major league roster.
I don’t want to build this kid up as if he’s the second coming of Frank Thomas. As a Cubs writer, you know too well about the hype of prospects who fail miserably at the major league level.
But there’s a growing sense of urgency, and what better time to step it up a notch than against the Cubs.
See you Monday night,
Mark
