I worry about the French. First, they decided to idolize Jerry Lewis. Then they allowed the “super-marche” — supermarket — to become ubiquitous in the land of boulangeries, boucheries and patisseries. Now they’ve got a vending machine dispensing bread. Not “bread” in an ATM way but real French bread – the baguette.
Here’s a video of this bread dispenser in action.
I know. I didn’t believe it either. But a quick Google search turned up a number of reputable media outlets reporting on the story so it appears to be true.
As one whose quixotic search for a real, honest-to-goodness store-bought baguette resulted in me making my own out of frustration, seeing Parisians simply walk up, pop in some money and get a hot baguette-to-go makes my head spin. And it seems, from the reactions on the video, the bread is pretty good.
So, is this something we should try in Chicago?
