The Cubs’ general manager vacancy could cost them the services of veteran third baseman Aramis Ramirez, according to his agent.
“I am sure it is going to affect (negotiations) until I find out who is going to be running the show and where they intend to go,” said Paul Kinzer, who was on his last day of a vacation in the Caribbean on Wednesday. “We have no idea where they are headed now. With Jim (Hendry, who was fired Aug. 19), I had a good idea. We would have been more likely to re-sign with them if Jim was here.
“It doesn’t look like anything like that is going to happen. It has always been No. 1 for (Ramirez) to stay in Chicago, but he might see what’s out there at this point. I am going to be (in Chicago) in the next week or so to sit down with him and we will have some discussion.”
Kinzer added that the 33-year-old Ramirez would be looking for a multi-year deal.
