If Americans hear just one more time that we need to invest in our infrastructure I think we will scream. State budgets provide funding for highways. The federal government budgets provide funding for highways. The trillion-dollar stimulus bill provided funding for highways. And now Obama is again asking for more highway funding. It is but another payback for union campaign contributions using taxpayer dollars. This is what happens when Congress gives President Obama a credit card with no spending limit.

The highway bill was established to complete the federal highway network. That work was completed in 1992. The bill has since been extended several times. The bill is now used as a slush fund for transit projects, highway maintenance for state as well as federal road, payback for loyal politicians, and other projects unrelated to bill’s original intent. It has nothing to do with saving jobs; it has everything to do with saving the careers of politicians and rewarding loyal voting blocs like unions.

A president with no private sector or economic experience continues to lecture Americans on job creation. If our president is really concerned about saving jobs, then he must stop creating a toxic job creation environment. High corporate taxes, onerous regulations, high litigation costs, high labor costs, an expensive takeover of healthcare, and enormous budget deficits and debt make it impossible for corporations and small businesses to consider hiring additional workers. The President’s latest proposal is highway robbery.
