John McCarron demonstrates how leaving out a few words changes the complexion and thrust of an article in “…before something really bad happens” (Sept. 4).
Referring to people caught in the mortgage mess, he says they are “a rash of families who overreached or got hornswoggled by shady mortgage brokers.” He left out all those who filed for “liar loans” and “no doc” (no document) loans. They lied, they knew it, so why should other taxpayers shed tears for them and bail them out?
Further on he refers to “a U.S. House of Representatives run by anti-government Republicans who think they can cut, cut, cut, cut the economy back to health.” Let’s be fair. Those Republicans are anti-big government and we sure aren’t going to spend, spend, spend, spend our economy back to health as some Democrats advocate.
