In response to the letter on Monday, Sept. 19 in which the writer mentioned that garbage collectors, lawyers and doctors don’t make any sacrifices, it amazes me that the fact that teachers only work 34 weeks a year is conveniently never mentioned. I know of no other job where you get 18 weeks of vacation in your first year on the job. Most people I know who have been at their jobs for 30-plus years, maybe, if they are lucky, get six weeks of vacation, a far cry from what a teacher gets.
Stop comparing apples to oranges.
