Thomas Ryan Jr., 83, a former mayor of Kankakee and brother of imprisoned ex-Gov. George Ryan, died Saturday, Sept. 24, in Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, according to Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Mr. Ryan was involved in his family’s business, Ryan Pharmacies, for more than 40 years, and was Kankakee mayor from 1965 to 1985.
Mr. Ryan was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, in 1927. He was in the Navy from 1945 to 1947, according to the funeral home.
In addition to his brother, Mr. Ryan also is survived by his wife, Stella; a daughter, Patricia Quigley; son, Jeffery; sister, Kathleen Dean; and two granddaughters.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home, Kankakee, 1900 W. Court St. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by an 11 a.m. procession to Asbury United Methodist Church, 196 S. Harrison Ave., Kankakee, for services.
