I am the owner of a small business here in Illinois, and I’d like to know when the state tax laws were amended to make taxes negotiable with our state government. No one seems to be offering us any tax credits!

Apparently, the new tax laws state that the larger a company you are, the more likely you are to receive tax credits for not going through with your threat to leave the state. Yes, I get it – “job retention” is the reason.

But can you imagine the uproar if the top 1 percent of individual income earners received special tax credits to prevent them moving to another state, while the remaining 99 percent still had to pay their entire share?

All taxpayers – corporate or individual – should be required to follow the same state tax code. Keeping jobs in Illinois should be a state priority for all businesses across the board, not just those with the highest revenues or most lobbyists.
