Crispin Lansdowne:

Just because the weather is turning from crisp fall to winter hostile doesn’t mean we need to abandon cider. For this more frigid time of year, we have Crispin Lansdowne, a member of the company’s “artisanal reserve” line, made with “Irish stout yeast and organic molasses.” Though I’m not much of a fan of the standard Crispin cider — there are better ciders made closer to home — Lansdowne is what a winter cider should be: darker, weightier and a little heavier than expected.

The murky amber color makes it obvious, and continues through to an upfront sweetness that swaps apple crispness for molasses heartiness (while still retaining some apple tang). Lansdowne also holds enough body to stand up to many foods — from grilled asparagus to a juicy burger — so don’t hesitate to bring it to a BYOB. Available at Binny’s,

213 W Grand Ave.; for other locations check binnys.com
